Romans 12:2 – “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
It is said that insanity is continuing the same behavior and each time expecting different results. I know most of us have heard this saying in our lives. I continue to advocate for personal growth (change), and I am more convinced that you have to change mindsets. If everything were just right, you wouldn’t need to change.
Philippians 4:8 – “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.“
This Scripture does enforce my belief that your mindset is very important. You change the type of information you feed your mind. You have to become active in the pursuit of change. Philippians 4:8 shares the perspective on what to think about. While you desire to return to school, consider your motive. Is it because you have a god-given talent you want to enhance? Sometimes we have to be motivated to work with what we already have. That is my motivation for personal growth.
Decide on one thing you would like to change. Give yourself thirty days to fine-tune and accomplish your goal. You can change twelve things about your life in a year. Broken down into increments, you are not overwhelmed by the prospect of change. One thing at a time, one day at a time.
Write out your plan. Detailing the steps will help determine how significant the habit is, or determine if something else has more priority for change.
Accountability. One thing setting a timeframe does is it makes you accountable to yourself. Today is the 1st of July. If you have a target of July 30th, you are moved to begin work. You can’t wait until the 25th to start. Setting a timeframe also plants your goal in the back of your mind to keep working toward that goal.
This post is about the simple steps it takes to begin your journey of change. As I have stated before, be patient with yourself, but begin. The journey of a thousand steps begins with the first one. Enjoy the process of becoming a better you.
Put God first. Talk to God about where you are and where you want to go. Talk to God about the gifts and talents He’s given you and how He wants you to use those gifts. Remember, we are servants. We are here to serve and help others. How can you do that where everyone is blessed? What are God’s plan and purpose for your life outside of loving Him and loving your neighbor as yourself. Ask God. Talk to Him. Jeremiah 33:3 – “Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.’
Be blessed and encouraged.
