Greetings! I pray, as always, that you are doing well. And, that your Wednesday has been great so far. The weather is great right now. We had a cool spell last week.
There is so much Scripture about walking in the Spirit. Galatians 5:13-21 is a great place to start. What does that mean to you? To me, walking in the Spirit is about knowing and obeying God’s word. How can you walk in the Spirit if you don’t know the Spirit? God’s word—John 4:23—says, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” God’s word is the truth.
Another way to determine when you are walking in the Spirit is by the fruit you bear. Matthew says we will be recognized by our fruit. Matthew 7:16-20 – “By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
As shown above, the fruit of the Spirit brings change to your life. Believers should be clothed as Colossians 3:13-15 says. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
I do understand that everyone is not clothed according to this description. However, the Scriptures direct us to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. I did learn some time ago (thank God!) that I am responsible for my actions. As I share God’s word in my writing, I am reminded that I need to remain mindful of that. The desire of my heart for myself and for others is to be in right relationship with God. This is not perfection. Right relationship is accepting Jesus as the Son of God and that He is Lord. We need Jesus for that.
Additional Scriptures for walking in the Spirit: Romans 6:6 / Romans 7:5 / Romans 7:18 / Romans 8:3-13 / Romans 13:14. I am sure the studying just these listed will compel you to study more. There are plenty more.
Be encouraged and God bless you.
