Good afternoon. I pray you are doing well. This post is running late today because I ran into WP issues. Support was helpful and here I am. I encourage you to continue developing your relationship with God. He meets you where you are.
God’s love is revealed clearly in Exodus. Yes, the children of Israel were the focus at that time. God’s heart for Israel was to free them from oppression. His love was expressed in how He delivered them. He performed signs and wonders through Moses. He parted the Red Sea. He led the children of Israel through the wilderness to the Promished Land in a cloud by day and fire by night. The result was God’s sovereignty, power, and glory; even though He had shown the Israelites His power and glory when He dealt with Pharaoh.
Hebrews 12:29 – “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Reverence and awe. The definition of reverence is “deep respect for someone or something. When you consider your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, does this sum up how you feel? Deep respect keeps one from doing certain things and compels one to do other things. The definition of awe is “a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder.” Do you have a fear of God’s all-knowing, present-everywhere, all-powerful character? Does knowing that God is an all-consuming fire prompt any feelings of awe? It should.
The fact that our God is an all-consuming fire should provoke reverence and awe. Some people get a rise out of saying God is “jealous.” This, after all, is a human emotion. Does this minimize God’s power? His character? Jealousy is an emotion. But, so is love. We do understand that love is an action word. It provokes behavior expressing that love. Should not our God, who created us, express jealousy when we give love, reverence, and awe to someone or something other than Him?
