Hello. I pray you have had a fantastic Friday! It is the weekend, and I pray the rest of it is productive and happy. Stay safe, hydrated, and cool. There’s talk it’s cooling down here in Vegas for a few days. Only in the low 100’s, not over 110.

I was in God’s word today, working with Hebrews 5:14. It says:

I noted the phrase “constant use” because you have to consistently apply the new way of thinking to renew your mind. Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

When you are able to test and approve what God’s will is, you are mature. What stood out was the word “mature”. Webster’s definition of mature means to advance towards ripeness; to become fully grown or developed; to ripen; as the judgment matures with age and experience. What is the experience but the application of the principles of God’s word?

Advocating for personal growth in all areas of our lives, spiritual growth must be included. Believers cannot remain naive or babes in Christ. Going through the reference Scriptures, and there were plenty, my belief here is based on the following.

Hebrews 6:1 – “1Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.”

Some may say that they do not understand the Bible. However, the Holy Spirit will bring the understanding needed. He is the Spirit of Truth. The key to transformation in the Spirit is to renew your mind to God’s word (as noted above – Romans 12:2). The tendency to read the word based on what we want it to say rather than accepting what it says brings difficulty to the process of understanding. Sometimes intelligence is that barbed wire fence that keeps you stuck in a certain place.

This can be a controversial statement, but we do not have to understand everything about what God does to accept that He is who He says He is. He is the creator of all things. Psalm 100:3 – “Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. (I do capitalize pronouns that reference God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.)

Be blessed and encouraged.

Great commentary, Sandra. I’m with you about understanding the Bible. I firmly believe that Christians should read the Bible cover to cover, over and over again. Over time, we begin to see the connections, and our understanding deepens. The Bible tells an incredible story, and like any story, it must be read in its entirety. Reading only portions or treating verses in isolation won’t give us the full picture.
