Knowing and Understanding Your Value System

I pray all is going well with you today. The focus today is on what you believe and why. What is your value system? Do you believe what your parents think? Why? Do you know the basis or foundation of what they think? Is it valid? Is it truth?

I started this post with some particular questions because you will have to answer for yourself and your life. Many people blame their parents for trauma, troubles, etc. However, I behoove you to consider that even so, when you became an adult, you walked into another area to be developed. You get to make your own choices. You don’t have to continue living based on someone else’s value system.

For instance, coming up, my mother had this saying, “If you make your bed hard, you have to lie in it.” While all choices have consequences, you don’t have to stay there forever. My value system is based on hope. That hope is in Christ Jesus, my Lord and Savior. My mother had her value system. I decided I did not agree with this sentiment and made it my business to improve my life on a consistent basis. My intent is not to bash my mother’s thought process. My intent is to inform you that I made a choice to develop my own as an adult.

Hence, my love for learning. Learning to do things excellently, to do things better, and to learn new things motivated me to make the best of the life God has given me. Why is this important to share? Because helping others navigate this journey is part of the reason I write. There is always hope. I made sure that my mindset was mine. Not exclusively someone else’s. I do accept that others have influenced my thought process. I do decide what I believe and process why I believe.

A sunset at the end of a day’s journey.

I believe God’s word is the truth, and I diligently search the Scriptures and read to understand. “Wisdom is the principal thing. Therefore get wisdom. And with all thy getting, get an understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7-NKJV) That said, I rely on the Holy Spirit for the truth. Jesus did say that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:17)

You may be wondering why I said all this. It is my effort to help you understand that it takes you diving deep into what is going on with you. I know that I believe in God and that His Son died for me. What do you believe and why? I hope that you will begin to evaluate what you believe and why.

Be blessed and encouraged.
