Encouragement, edification, and empowerment from a biblical perspective for true transformation.

Quote for Today

I hope you are having a terrific Tuesday. The weather is beautiful right now in Las Vegas. It is 72 degrees with a nice breeze. I’ve been moving things around and tossing more things out.

I thought a CS Lewis quote would bring provocative thought.

Lewis’s writings make me think. Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters are on my list to read in 2025. I have read The Screwtape Letters several times over the years, and I enjoy CS Lewis’s conversational narration. However, I have not yet read Mere Christianity.

I must say this quote is very true. As I continue my work on minimizing, I think about myself a lot less. I believe we all need the work of Christ in our hearts and minds. I was miserable when I thought about all the mistakes I’d made, how I’d fallen short, or wrong choices made, etc. When I focused my mind on what I needed to get done and the details of that, I began to feel better.

This journey of change brings about the realization that much of our emotion is caught up in what we think about ourselves and how much. That is what I believe. This is one of the reasons my anchor is God’s word. Instead of thinking about myself based on my finite markers, I choose to think about God’s creative descriptions. This helps me stay grounded.

The Psalms are very effective in clarifying the inner man, our weaknesses, and our strengths. David was very passionate and descriptive in praying for a clean heart (Psalm 51:10). Then, God’s word acknowledges that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). It seems like a paradox, right? But it is oh-so-true because our sinful nature comes calling. Reading God’s word will clear up many things. It also brings additional questions.

The best part for me is that God is amid the paradox, and there is hope for everyone who wants it. Be blessed.
