Hebrews 12:1-13

Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of wtinesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

These Scriptures encourage us to confront our sins. They motivate and strengthen us by pointing to the examples of the witnesses who have gone before us. Let us run the race set before us. To reiterate a point from the 12/17 post, set our eyes on the prize.

We are blessed that even in falling short, God loved us more than we can imagine because He disciplines us. He doesn’t leave us to self-destruct. When we receive such discipline, we are strengthened, helping ourselves and those around us. We are to run the race set before us. The provisions for the race and the journey are provided. The Holy Spirit, God’s word, righteousness through Jesus Christ our Savior, and the helmet of salvation. Our foundation is strong.

This is important to me because God continues to express His love for us, providing what we need to run this race. Application for me is resting in the real hope we have in Jesus. Circumstances are not the authority in our lives. Jesus is. The hope we have in Him keeps our eyes on the prize.

Let’s run the race. Be blessed.
