Avid

Avid

Hebrews 4 TwelveWhat are you avid about? What do you have enthusiasm for? What are you zealous for? Keen about and devoted to or dedicated to? The antonym is indifferent. Today I speak on faith. I am zealous about my faith. I am not indifferent to what pertains to eternal life. I am an avid reader of the Word and zealous for the things of God. Sunday’s message was rather sobering. The pastor spoke about the lack of care for Jesus. He died on the cross and yet the time taken to worship and praise Him is minimal. Let me do that in between this or that. Life gets in the way of our devotion to our Savior.

2 Peter 1:3 – “…as His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him…”

I thought about the things that we spend quite a bit of time on. TV, cell phones, sports and other attention-grabbing things that give us no strength when it comes to truly handling the events of life. Can we handle the darts thrown at us? Do we know what to do and to whom to go to when things get rough? Can we pray through, trusting our Heavenly Father? The Word says that He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Life. All things. We have the strength from the Word but more importantly, we have the Holy Spirit to strengthen us, to guide us, to comfort us. He ministers to us when things go awry, whether or not we caused it.

We are certainly distracted by the things of the world. In the meantime, the enemy has a stronghold on our families, friends, and our country. We need to be sober, vigilant, praying through as well as pray others through. This place is not our home and to be distracted is just what the enemy desires. Hey, while you do this and that, he sneaks in and bam! Next thing you know your child or spouse or friend is being taken over. How did that happen? Truthfully, prayer is not just when things happen but is needed before things happen. We are called to pray before something happens, while something happens and after something happens.
