The Lemon-Filled Donut was Calling My Name

As part of my beat, aging, and retirement are focused on. I am included in this group. I am sharing my challenges. Not all at once, of course. I deal with Type 2 diabetes. I have coffee every Monday morning with my sister and others at my living complex. She provides Monday morning coffee and treats to all who wish to partake.

I must watch my carbs. My last A1C was over 12. Not good. I have been fasting bread for the previous week and a half. I feel better. However, I was challenged this morning because when arriving for coffee, my sister informed me that I had a lemon-filled donut waiting for me. I stood at the counter and had to revisit my commitment. While the taste would be delicious, the impact would be destructive.

Yes, I was challenged. What was more important, my flesh (appetite satisfied) or the commitment to change? Guess what? The commitment to change won this morning. I will not say I will not have that temptation again. I will say that the more I say no to destructive habits, the stronger the good habits become.

By the way, I’ve had to add Glipizide to my medications. I have been taking about half a week. My morning blood sugar has gone down. Yay!
