Having a Growth Mindset as We Age and Move Into Retirement

This post is to clarify what the term growth mindset is and how important
having a growth mindset is to change. There is a definition of what a growth
mindset is by Carol Dweck. Dweck believes people with a growth mindset are
"those who believe that their abilities, talents, and intelligence can be
molded and improved with work”. She is considered a wealth of knowledge
regarding this subject because of her extensive yeas in research.

Growth mindset is continually being explored as the objective to help others
live to their fullest potential, a motivating factor. You may ask, "What
does that to me?" Aging can be a challenge. We all age. Retirement can be
a challenge. The question you may need to answer for yourself is, "Does my
mindset need to change for me to move forward, in whatever it may be? "

The link included here provides a good read for more understanding about having a growth mindset based on Carol Dweck’s theory. Change comes because life happens. The following quote from WeWork.com provides even more clarity. “Having a growth mindset means believing that a person’s abilities aren’t innate but can be improved through effort, learning, and persistence. A growth mindset is all about the attitude with which a person faces challenges, how they process failures, and how they adapt and evolve as a result.”

Whatever the next phase is for you, whether aging, retirement, parenting, or higher education, having a growth mindset is pivotal to changing for the better. The initial focus of this post was about having a growth mindset as we age, moving into retirement. Further research indicates that a growth mindset is necessary as we successfully move into each new phase.

Becoming better is a motivation behind having a growth mindset. There are resources available to help you do that. The growth mindset is being willing to change.
