Writing 4I write because I love to read. I have been reading books since I can remember and love the stories told or the information given. I didn’t just read fiction. I just loved to read. I enjoyed how authors expressed themselves. I thought I was an introvert when I was younger but as I matured, I realized that I had a lot to say. Although I have not arrived in my writing, and not sure what that really means, it is because I have something to say and I want to encourage others.

Writing 2I write because I find it easier to express myself. I like to think about what I want to say. Sometimes that is not easy in the moment, however, writing allows me to say what I would like to the way I would like to. Expressing yourself the right way – communicating for understanding – takes practice. While I do accept that others may not agree with me just because they understand, there is a deep satisfaction I get when I say what I need to the way it needs to be said. I write because it empowers me.

Writing 5I write because when I go back and re-read what I have written it gives me a deeper understanding of myself. Sometimes just saying the first thing that comes to mind is not a good thing. If I am feeling a certain type of way, what I say may be misconstrued. Once words are spoken, you cannot take them back. You can apologize if the words were hurtful and rejoice if they were kind. However, writing allows me to really think about what I want to say and how I want to say it.

I write because in encouraging others, I write words that lift the spirit, dry the tears, motivate or inspire others. This means that I have touched humanity in a way that goes further than the immediate distance or the physical presence. Being able to reach and touch someone for the better in a different state or country is a blessing. Being able to touch someone faraway because you understand them or they understand you is an awesome thing. I find that when I write, and more importantly when I read what others have written, we have more in common than first realized.

I write because I believe it is a gift God gave me to glorify Him. I write because it empowers the spirit within me. When I write about the Lord and spread the Good News this way, I feel like I am in my zone. We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. We can speak to so many more people when we have a venue to write. How would we even be able to share the Gospel if it wasn’t for the written word?

  1. I agree, writing does give you a sense of yourself. I find that writing is a measure of growth and provides a voice to your authentic self.

  2. “I write because when I go back and re-read what I have written it gives me a deeper understanding of myself.”

I find this to be the case, as well. However, I have discovered that as I learn something about my faith as I write, I learn something new about God in the process. I think that is one reason why God gives us the gifts He does; to learn about the relationship we have with Him.

  3. Yes, writing is a cognitive therapy. Actually those individuals who indulge in craft work, and by that I mean an actual craft that one seeks to master, are creating their own therapeutic each time they do such work. And it is work. Activity that is not work, that expends little energy and concentration is simply that, activity. Most individuals do not realize that writing is a craft, one we are taught in our primary education but one that we often fail to continue.

Sometimes we think we have little of importance to say and yet that is never true. One may wish to write of great moral principles or social issues. Or one may wish to write words of encouragement and faith in god. Faith is that dance we do with god. While we may not be able to see him or feel his hands, still, we want to dance cheek to cheek around the dance floor we call life. It is a dance we do in silence. And strangely enough, writing is like dancing with god save the partners are those who read our words. we seldom see them or hear them or feel them or even know half the time if they are present. We write because those readers are there. the number doesn’t matter. If only one person reads what I have written I am successful.

And like god we don’t ask our readers to do magic tricks or amazing feats of prestidigitation. And I don’t think talents are lottery winnings bestowed by god to the lucky ones. No, if god gives you anything it is the sight to see your talents, to feel what talents are within you, and to understand how to use what talents you have.

I like your style, an easy and peaceful way of saying. Will you ever “arrive” in writing? No, no one ever does unless they stop reaching beyond themselves. Keep expressing yourself in that simple and honest manner. You are a pleasure to read.

    1. I appreciate your kind words. Thank you very much for reading my writing and I look forward to reading yours.

  4. When I read what others write I get a better sense of what the world is truly like. I get so lost in conversations sometimes because they go too fast and I can’t process the information fast enough to keep up. I find in my own writing that I can bring glory to God and solidify my stance, to stand with the whole Armor of God per se. I believe the written word is our link to historical context and we are doomed without it.

    1. Very well said.

      1. Thank you.

  5. Sandra, forgive me to calling you Wanda previously. I saw “Wanda” in one of your posts or linked posts and thought that was your given name. Sorry bout that. I won’t forget now. 🙂

  6. Keep writing what is buried deep within your heart…you are a true inspiration!

    1. Lol…I am not offended but thought I was someone else.

  7. I am much better at writing than speaking. One thing writing allows is the stripping away of emotions that emerge in a discussion. It’s less about winning and convincing and more about carefully crafting a well-flowing position. And seeing thoughts in print often highlights weak points, which facilitates personal growth while fortifying those shallow areas.

    1. Excellently put. Writing is so much easier for me in another sense because even if I am emotional, I can still feel a certain way and have control.

  8. I write to free all the unspoken thoughts hiding somewhere between the brain and the mind one a machine and the other a ghost within it…
see that actually makes sense when you write it, ^_^ Anyhoo I write to free space to think more nuggets of sometimes insightful wisdom it’s almost Divine, maybe it is
