What a contrast! Living in the Spirit or Living in the World
This prompt is an exciting one! The definition for yet another strong word begins with “juxtaposition or comparison showing striking differences. Distinguish or set together so as to reveal a contrast.” Psalms and Proverbs do a great job of revealing the contrast of life in the Spirit and life in the world.
When I first thought about this word, the image of a black background with a white circle in the middle came to my mind. How significant is this? I think of the world and what God did when He sent His Son Jesus to reconcile us to Himself. Jesus is the white circle in the center, or the light in a dark world, the black background. He is the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star. Thought the image of the white lilies on the black background captured what I wanted.
One of the synonyms to contrast is oppose. This world seeks to oppose God in all that it does even though He created it. Check out Romans, the book that describes what this comparison really looks like. Romans 1:25. “They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator Himself.” What is the basis for what you believe? What do you compare it to? Is what you desire compared to a world that is ever-changing based on what is currently relevant? Do you compare or contrast your foundation of belief to the world or the Word of God? These questions are presented because they will help you determine where you really stand in what you believe.
After learning about contrast in design (colors, shapes, etc.), it appears to me that contrast is applicable across multiple lines, the tangible and the intangible. The intangible, though unseen with the physical eyes, is no less important than the tangible things. Although, I personally believe that it is more so. The contrast here is real, seen or unseen. Let’s say you compared a smile to a frown.
A smile or a frown? Are you up or you down?
Walk in the light, live free. Walk in darkness, you cannot see.
Jesus is light shed in the dark. God saves humanity first with the Ark.
Darkness and light, a true contrast defined. His love, a gem fully mined.
Contrast, God started it all. Day and night; winter, spring, summer and fall.
Contrast what it means to be; Live in bondage or truly live free.
