As I tossed and turned a little while attempting to sleep, one word seemed to resonate in my inner being. It was “resilient.” I have been thinking about this journey and the new aspects of moving forward as well as the best way to incorporate what the Lord is giving me to do now. Remember, my theme for this year is living in the “now.” First is the practical application of taking stock of my thoughts and dismissing the ones that are no good.
Of course, I checked the dictionary to understand the fullness of what this means. The definition of resilient is “the ability to recover readily from illness, depression, adversity, or the like.” At this point in time, I know that this is me. I found some pins to express myself like the “resilient” one following.
R E S I L I E N T
Reading the sentence for each letter of the word gave me an appreciation for what I have dealt with recently and over the years. No pretense of being full of myself because it is by the grace of the Almighty God that I am still here. The point is that I believe God has revealed to me even more clearly who I am. While I can appreciate this character trait, it is not the easiest to bear.
That said, it is necessary to show gratitude for where I am and the steps being taken to live in the “now.” As I reflected on the two pins above, I had to add the Scriptures that are most applicable to the description. First to get rid of the negative committee, you have to renew your mind. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2, NLT). In order to be resilient, you have to be able to rethink what you are dealing with and God’s Word is the best way to do that.
Another Scripture that reflects resilience is the warfare Scripture in Ephesians. “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will be standing firm.” (Ephesians 6:13-14, NLT) At first thought, it may seem like this may not be applicable to our personal walk. It is very applicable though, especially when you answer in obedience to what God wants you to do. The thought process tries to dismiss the obedience and it seems like every obstacle is a real dart from the enemy. However, when you have done all, keep standing. That is real resilience.
Understanding who we are in light of God’s Word is imperative. I can say that it is by the grace of God and His understanding that I write what I write. Resilience is about accepting and knowing that “this too shall pass.” It is about accepting God’s plan for you. We may not always have understanding during the process but we can be assured that God wants only the best for us. Remember that situations and circumstances are temporary. The only constant is change. His changes for us are certainly about becoming more like Christ as we walk this walk.
In essence, I wanted to share what the Lord gave me. In this journey, I share the real truth in hopes that what helps me also helps someone else. I hope this post has blessed you today and if only one point resonates with you, then I am blessed.
